Wedding Photography Unveiled Giveaway!

The beautiful book Wedding Photography Unveiled is available now!  It has inspiration and insight from 20 photographers and I have the privilege of being included in the book!  My work has been published in a variety of magazines but being chosen as one of America's Top Wedding photographers by PDN and being included in this book is one of the biggest honors I have received.  The other photographers in this book are amazing and it is wonderful to be in their company!  Jose Villa's photo is on the cover and is amazing!

I am giving away two copies of the book to two photographers who write the most interesting entries about why they love photographing weddings.  I can't wait to see what you write....

I love photographing weddings because every one is unique but inherently the same.  I love my clients and being able to create photographs that will spark their memories of their wedding day for many years to come.

Thanks for posting this, it's nice to see a new contemporary book on 'today's' wedding photography. Congrats on being included!
Why I love wedding photography: I love being surrounded by the joy of a wedding! It is an honor to be chosen by a couple to photograph such an important event in their lives and not only witness their emotions, but capture images that will tell their story forever. The beaming smile of the bride as she is about to see her groom for the first time, the tenderness of a groom as he says his vows, the intimacy of their first dance...seeing their joy and love that day is contagious...no wonder I always drive home after a day's work with a smile!

GREAT QUESTION so here goes.

The reasons I love wedding photography are too many to mention but here are a few. I always get butterflys in my tummy when I wake up on a wedding day and its a great feeling and lets me know I am lucky enough to really do what I enjoy the most. I find that at the end of each of my weddings I have fallen in love all over again, I really do love my couples but more importantly I love my wife just that little bit more. When your peeking thru your view finder at the intimate moments of the ceremony (rings / vowes etc) you get to see enormous love being shared between two people. - Wedding photography reminds me that love is the most powerful of emotions and with a good man or woman by your side you can do whatever your heart wants. - I love to share the photos with the couples in my presence because I love to see the reactions and see all the memories coming back. But mostly I love wedding photography because when I am dead and burried part of me will live on in the love of the couples each time they look at their wedding photos.

I know being first to post counts me out as people will have a better idea what to write but I just love weddings and really like your idea because it makes me think why I do my job

Congratulations on being featured, and may you have many more years of deserved success!

I adore wedding photography, and in order to explain why, I have my brief chronology of reasons.

The first time I picked up a camera, at age twelve, it was play. I could play with the camera, but also quite literally with TIME. You played the moment, like an instrument, as you learned to play with a camera. As I got older, I realized that while all moments contain potency, *certain* moments stand out in and of themselves. They contain the energy of the people in them, as well as the electricity of their surroundings, the weather, and the visible spectrum. The beautiful thing about photography was that I could capture those *certain* moments in a playful and elegant manner.

And that's why I love wedding photography. It is powerful and beautiful, and best of all highlights the love between two unique individuals in the universe.

Yay for being in the book Melanie! :)

I love shooting weddings for many reasons - some are: Time and again it is wonderful to witness such an important moment in couples' lives, one that they have planned for and put their heart and soul into for so long; to see their happiness and all the emotions, from brides in tears over their mom/dad who's passed away, to the nervous giggle when they can hardly say their vows, to the toasts which all to often make me well up myself. Reminds me of my own wedding every time.
I love to see all the different ways to style a wedding, the different ideas for colors and decorations and flowers.
Shooting weddings really keeps me on my toes, it makes me strive to do my best and constantly improve and learn, and produce quality images, art, memories all in one.
Most of all I love to be able to preserve something so precious to someone, to be able to make couples happy every time they look at their photos.

Congrats on the book! Here's why I love shooting weddings:

- I get to listen to "Single Ladies" every weekend and in my head I picture everyone dancing like Beyonce.
- Awesome food.
- I get to dress up for a change! When you're self-employed sometimes it's hoodies and flannel pants all day....and maybe week....long.
- I need to justify spending what I've spent on equipment. Luckily I have weddings to shoot or my wife would kill me.
- Answering questions from Uncle Bob about my expensive equipment because it makes me feel like a brainiac.
- The photo of the couple walking back down the aisle after the ceremony. Whether they're smiling, laughing, crying, hugging, or kissing, it's always my favourite shot of the day. Weddings can be similar sometimes but to me, that moment never gets old. Everyone always looks amazing and, to me, that one moment can encapsulate the entire wedding.

I love shooting weddings because I love to capture people on one of the happiest days in a person's life. I love hearing the groom say "I just adore this woman!" and kiss her with a big smile and sparkly eyes. I love how family crisis and sorrows seem to vanish for a moment, and how it bring friends and family together for a fun and loving day. It's like a healthy overdose of happiness, that'll last me a while, and I'm feeling as happy as they are. I love to share their enthusiasm and love on that day, and the amazing part is that they let me!

Very boring reasons really, and probably not uncommon. But it's so darn fun that I forget aching feet, the stress and all that, as it's so darn fun to shoot someone's wedding!

I love the last deep breath the bride takes before the doors open.

As a woman I am partial to weddings, I call myself a wedding addict! Weddings appeal to me in so many ways. The best being that I get to escape the reality of my M-F, 8-5 job, and do what I went to school and trained to do, and love. Saturday is definitely my fav day of the week, it's Fabu! (short for fabulous). I am also a technology addict, and I love everything having to do with posting images, blogging, Twitter, and all social networkings. Weddings just seem to slide perfectly into these areas. Plus, I'm a real people person (I've been told).

I love photographing weddings because:

(10) It's one of life's few events that has the power to bring entire families together to spill their emotions - the other one being a funeral.
(9) My Nikon D700's shutter click doesn't go over well at funerals.
(8) Drunks can dance better than stiffs.
(7) Where else can you party on the job and play with gear at the same time?
(6) You can shoot the bride and not get arrested.
(5) It gives me an excuse to tell my wife why I need to buy more gear.
(4) ...and that includes a GPS so I can find my way home the next morning.
(3) I get a night off from DWF.
(2) I actually get paid for all this fun!

Drum roll please... The #1 reason I like wedding photography is...

(1) I tell people I'm good at it, and they believe me!

Marriage is tough. Like cars that need regular maintenance, marriages need renewals. For me, joining and capturing the touching moments of weddings reminds me of the original love we all cherish so much, no matter where we are today. At the end of the day, when I drag myself back home, stomach empty, feet sore, back ache, I feel my body is breaking apart, but my spirit was renewed and recharged by the scene. Remember, we all said “yes” loud and clear to “for better for worse”? Remember, we didn’t get together because we think and act alike, but the opposite of it. When I come back from each wedding, my wife is always there waiting for me, no matter how late it is. "Honey, I am so proud of you", she greets me with the beautiful voice and sweatest smile in the world. For that moment, we fall in love, ONCE AGAIN. And yesterday doesn’t matter any more!
