Our First Amendment

I was travelling to San Fransisco to shoot a wedding yesterday and as I was getting on the plane in Denver I noticed the First Amendment tattooed on the back of the woman in front of me. My first reaction was that I wanted to photograph her back but didn't want to appear like a creep. I knew my opportunity would last for about 30 seconds. I mustered up enough courage and asked her if I could take her photo when we got off the plane, gave her my card so she would know that I was a professional and hoped she would say yes. She immediately agreed and I told her that I would send her a copy. I met her at the luggage carousel and we popped into the bathroom and this is what I saw. At a time like this, just before our big election I was happy to be able to document something that is so important and so beautiful. Thank you Jennifer!!

Kaci & Darby at Palmetto Bluffs

Over the last several years I have been able to work with Katie Huebel and Ellen Robinson from WED in Charleston, South Carolina. This is the second time that I have worked at Palmetto Bluffs with Katie and I just love these jobs!! It is a perfect place to get married because it is private, beautiful, comfortable, convenient, and the service is impeccable.

I arrived the day before and photographed some detail shots of the dress and Kacie's shoes and fell in love with the bathtub where she would be getting dressed the following day. After she slipped into her dress I asked her if she would get in the tub and I love the playfulness of this photo. I encourage all of my clients to take all of their posed photos with their families and friends before the ceremony so they can enjoy the entire celebration with their guests. The one issue that creates the most apprehension is that often couples would prefer to see each other for the first time walking down the aisle. When my clients agree to do the photos beforehand I always encourage them to allow me to coordinate their first meeting in a way that is memorable and meaningful for them and beautiful for the photos. It is one of the few times that they will be alone on their wedding day and I think it is a wonderful time for them to share together.

I always forget the name of this bench that is so popular in the south. If I could figure out a way to get the plank to Montana I would have one in my yard. I think it is so beautiful and fun. Darby started bouncing it, and I love how Kaci's feet are up in the air and she is slightly nervous!
Darby asked to take some photos down by the river which is a beautiful spot. This is my favorite photo from that area because it has a sense of motion to it and the church is perfectly placed in the background. Whenever I am walking somewhere with a couple I always keep looking around to see if there is a photo opportunity.....
The cupcakes. How beautiful are these? I loved Katie's idea of putting them in to go boxes as gifts for the guests to take home!!!

Darby's family has a family business that creates fields for sports and Katie brought that history into the wedding with these place cards that were on the small bits of astro turf.....

One of the reasons I love Palmetto Bluffs so much is the beautiful church that is just a few hundred yards away from the cocktail and reception areas.

Another reason I love these weddings is because of the choir. It is one of the only times during weddings that I stop photographing and enjoy the excitement. (I only stop after I have a photo that I think is beautiful!)

The inside of the church is just as beautiful as the outside!

And the choir leads the guests to the cocktails on the lawn....

After dinner, Darby and Kaci surprised their guests with a spectacular fireworks show that rivals the one that we have in our sleepy little town of Livingston, Montana.

Trash the Gown Session

This is going to be short...but I am so excited about my first trash the dress session that i had to share a few images on the blog! Yesterday I shot Amy and Steven's wedding at the Ritz Carlton in Naples, Florida. (I'll write more about the wedding and the rehearsal later....it was all very lovely....)

I asked Amy yesterday if she was interested in doing a trash the dress session and she immediately agreed to it. (She and Steven are one of the most fun loving couples that I have photographed!) So this morning at 7:30 while the sun was just hitting the Gulf of Mexico she and Steven came down the boardwalk and walked right into the water. Their spontaneity and affection for each other really makes the images come to life.....I hope you like them.

Val and Jim

Here are some beautiful photos from Val and Jim's wedding May 3, 2008 at the Chapel by the Sea in Clearwater Beach. They were taken by Cindy and Holly.

The only thing prettier than the day was the bride. Val and Jim were a joy to work with…not even one complaint about the heat! They are so obviously in love and we were so happy to be part of their special day. We hope the honeymooners are having a wonderful time in Hawaii!
