Engagement Photos with Leslee Miller and Scott Gabrik

Yesterday I met with Leslee and Scott and we took the following images for their engagement photos. I had such a great time with them choosing clothes and finding different spots to take the photos at.

Engagement photos are interesting to me for several reasons. I think it is a challeng because when I am shooting I amthinking of what the couple might like, what I like and what their families might like. So therefore there is a wide selection of photographs. I have included a bit more traditional type of imagery and some image that capture their connection. I LOVE the photos of them in the trees that I have coupled with the photos of them walking. I think the bit of motion and the lovley light that is coming through the trees really captures the lightness that they have with each other.

As we were walking back to the house Leslee pointed out this long drift of snow in front of us for a spot to take some photos. It was a great spot because the snow blended right into the sky. It reminded me of some portraits I took at the Emerson/Mullen wedding with a wheat filed in the foreground. Anyway, after we took some photos on the snow I asked if they would be willing to make some snow angels and here are a couple of those photos.....

Melanie, congrats on having your work published so often! (I don't know if you know Tony Corbell with WPPI and RangeFinder - he's my uncle and I found your site through Rangefinder) I think it is wonderful that you share your work and all the wonderful details the brides think of. So my question is, what do you put in your contract with the bride and groom to be able to publish your photos of them? How do you word it? Do you ever have clients that don't want their wedding shared in magazines?

Hello,
(I am not sure of your first name.) I do not know your uncle, but I do know Bill Hurter from WPPI.

I do write in my contract that I have full ownership of copyright and am able to use the images in a variety of PR ways. Here is the quote from my contract: "Nashan Photographers may use any and all proofs and prints for purposes of advertising, display, stock, use in photography contests, or for any other reasonable purpose without notification of, release by, or compensation to Client." I would definately ask your lawyer to look over your wording. There ae some of my clients who are concerned about the usage of their photos in publications, etc. I always ask them first if theya are comfortable with me using the images and respect their decision. There are some clients who have asked me not to use their images and again I listen to their wishes. Do you have a web site? I tried googling and didn't find anything....
