Recycled Wedding Plans

Barbel just shot some engagment portraits for Rhea and Tyler and learned an interesting story about the couples wedding. I asked Rhea to write a paragraph about how they are planning to pay for their wedding. It is remarkable.

My parents run a business in which my father travels from one landfill to another crushing waste metal into large bales to be recycled. It's amazing the amount of appliances, car parts, and sheet metal from buildings and so many other things that accumulate in a short period of time. When it came time to plan our wedding, my father realized the amount of waste aluminum, such as radiators, semi wheels, and siding, and its value if recycled. He began sorting the aluminum from these metal piles in order to pay for the wedding. While most wedding budgets assign a specific amount of money to a specific vendor, ours has assigned pick-up loads of aluminum to cover the cost of each expense (i.e. wedding dress is 1 load, Ceremony/Reception site 2 loads, Photography 1 1/2 loads.) By the time we have the wedding, every expense will be paid in full. It has been a lot of fun for us each time a new load is ready to recycle. I guess one man's junk really is another man's treasure.

PDN INTERVIEW

PDN, Photo District News, interviewed me for one of their stories in their annual weddings issue. While talking to Reuel during the interview I told him how much I respected the publication. It is the first thing that visitors see on my website because it is such a valuable and credible publication. Being mentioned in an interview, contest or selection is an amazing honor. I have been subscribing to this trade publication for years and am always amazed at the information I can gather from each issue. A few years ago I was one of the 15 wedding photographers that they chose as the best in the country. Last year one of my images was selected in their competition and then this year I had the honor of being included in an article that included many of the editors I have worked with and some great photographers.

I get to work at the job that I love AND get national recognition that helps to validate what I am doing. This coupled with a family that I adore makes me so very happy with my life.

Cindy and Holly photograph Cate & Imran/Ritz Carlton, Naples

On April 7 Cindy and Holly photographed Cate and Imran's wedding at the Ritz Carlton in Naples. The next day Cindy called to tell me that the Bride and Groom were wonderful people to work for and that the photos came out lovely. I have just been over the photos a few times and am very happy with how Cindy and Holly captured the day as it unfolded. I think that the photographs capture the great love that Cate and Imran share.

Here are a couple of notes that I have received from the bride and the coordinator. I think they did a wonderful job.

If you would like to see the photos please go to:

Dear Cindy and Holly,

Thank you so much for these beautiful photos! They
are even better than we had ever imagined! You really
captured the feel of our wedding. And you were both
wonderful to work with as well...so unobtrusive.

Do you know when we will be receiving our physical
photos? Also, Imran and I are interested in
purchasing the digital files for $650. Should we talk
to Melanie about that?

Thanks for everything!
Cate

Good Morning Melanie,

I hope you are having a wonderful day!
I just wanted to drop you a quick note to tell you how much I enjoyed
the photos of Cate and Imran. You did a phenomenal job and I will make
sure that all of our future brides will know this!!!

Thanks again for your hard work!

Warmest Regards,

Steven

SAVE THE DATE...

Mike and Sarah sent out Save the date cards for their September 22 wedding. Mike is a graphic designer and designed the cards which I think look beautiful. He also has created a web page that I have mentioned before that is also mentioned on the cards. I took the photos of them in an engagement portrait session that we did on a cold winter day here in Montana. Mike had the vision for the front photo which I love. We also did some other photos including some ice skating ones and some at a coffee shop. They decided to use one of the ice skating photos on their stamps. We are able to take any photo that you love and make stamps for you, I think it is a great way to make the whole feel of your invites, save the dates, or thanks you cards look complete.
